Police Traffic Safety Centre
Photos from the fixed automatic traffic cameras are sent wirelessly to the Police Traffic Safety Centre in Helsinki. The photo taken by a traffic safety camera shows the vehicle, the licence plate, the driver, and identification data.
The Police Traffic Safety Centre is subordinate to the National Police Board but administratively a part of the Helsinki Police Department. The primary goal of the Traffic Safety Centre is to improve traffic safety. The Police Traffic Safety Centre deals with about 150 000 traffic offences and crimes detected through automatic traffic surveillance each year.
In addition to matters of automatic traffic surveillance, all the requests for administrative review of traffic penalty fees issued by the Helsinki police department are considered in the Traffic Safety Centre.
